Kinstellar hosts exclusive, first-of-its-kind event in Bulgaria for heads of legal departments and senior in-house lawyers

June 2018 – On 12 June 2018, Kinstellar’s Sofia office held the conference “The Growing Role of Company Lawyers in a Multi-Challenging Business Environment”— an exclusive, first-of-its-kind event in Bulgaria dedicated to general counsels, heads of legal departments, senior in-house lawyers and HR professionals.

The half-day conference, which included lunch and networking, brought together executives, corporate counsels and HR directors from leading international and Bulgarian banks and a diverse group of companies active in Bulgaria in the pharmaceutical, insurance, telecommunications, media, consumer goods and retail industries. This created a unique forum for the discussion of the major current and upcoming legal and business developments that can be expected to shape the agendas of corporate counsels in Bulgaria over the next year. CEE Legal Matters served as media partner for the event.

Conference speakers and guests discussed the role that corporate counsels play in supporting companies as they navigate change and its associated challenges while achieving key success factors. During the event, both technology experts and senior lawyers touched upon the role and importance of technology to business growth, the major transformative technology trends, their application in B2B and consumer-facing businesses, the associated legal implications, and various upcoming regulations in this respect. Senior lawyers and HR executives walked the audience through the key aspects and considerations of company transformations following an acquisition, integration or major reorganisation and offered their view on best practices. The expected modernisation of European company law facilitating cross-border reorganisation and M&A, as well as foreign investment controls and upcoming reporting (whistleblowing) requirements and their possible impact on deal planning and corporate governance, respectively, were also among the topics discussed at the conference.

Keynote speakers and panel members included Barbara Majcen, General Counsel for CEE & SEE at Teva Pharmaceuticals; Atanas Raykov, Head of Global Telecom Partnerships & Director of Business Development CIS & CEE at Viber; Elena Chaleva, Director of the Legal Directorate of UBB AD (Part of KBG Group); Olga Shishkova, General Counsel at Fadata AD; Margret Barzachka-Nikolova, HR Director at Actavis – a Teva company; Alexandra Goujgoulova, HR Manager at Visteon Bulgaria; Nina Tsifudina, Managing Associate with Kinstellar’s Employment and M&A Practice in Sofia; Dessislava Fessenko, Head of Kinstellar’s TMT Practice in Sofia; and Stiliyana Ivanova and Kamen Chanov, Associates at Kinstellar Sofia.
