Associate and Senior Associate, Projects & Infrastructure – Almaty
We are looking for an Associate and a Senior Associate (3+ years of experience) with excellent skills in Projects & Infrastructure legal areas to join our team in the Almaty office. What you can look forward to
You will get involved in working on the most interesting projects that appear on the legal market. It will be challenging, but we can promise you that you will learn a lot. Under the guidance of more experienced colleagues, you will work on your own development and continuous education.
Responsibilities include:
- Advising clients on the structuring, drafting, and negotiation of Operations & Maintenance (O&M), Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC), concession, and public-private partnership (PPP) contracts;
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating O&M and EPC contracts for large-scale infrastructure projects;
- Preparing and reviewing ancillary project documentation (e.g., service agreements, supply agreements, consortium agreements);
- Providing legal support for infrastructure development projects across sectors such as transport, energy, utilities, and social infrastructure;
- Managing and coordinating legal aspects of complex transactions, from inception through financial close and implementation;
- Liaising with clients, opposing counsel, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth execution of projects within established timelines;
- Assisting with project finance transactions, including lender and sponsor-side advisory;
- Advising on regulatory and compliance matters related to infrastructure development;
- Managing due diligence processes for large-scale projects, including risk assessment and mitigation strategies;
- Providing strategic guidance on regulatory, compliance, and commercial issues relevant to infrastructure transactions;
- Collaborating with cross-jurisdictional teams to provide seamless legal solutions;
- Working closely with partners, associates, and cross-functional teams on matters spanning finance, corporate, tax, and other practice areas;
- Engaging with clients, government entities, and other stakeholders to ensure project success;
- Fulfilling other tasks as assigned by company management.
The ideal candidate will meet the following criteria:
- Law degree from a reputable university;
- Qualified lawyer with 3+ years of experience in infrastructure projects, ideally at an international or major domestic law firm;
- Knowledge of FIDIC contract models;
- Familiarity with procurement law and dispute resolution mechanisms in infrastructure contracts;
- Familiarity with relevant regulatory frameworks and standard forms (e.g. FIDIC, NEC);
- Strong expertise in O&M and EPC contracts, PPP structures, and project finance;
- Strong understanding of project finance structures, risk allocation, and contract management in large-scale projects;
- Experience in advising sponsors, contractors, investors, lenders, and public authorities or major infrastructure transactions;
- Solid understanding of regulatory and legal frameworks governing infrastructure projects;
- Strong academic background and work ethic;
- Full professional proficiency in English;
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills;
- Strong communication and client management skills;
- Exceptional time-management, prioritization, organizational, and problem-solving skills;
- Ability to handle multiple legal matters in a demanding work environment;
- Can-do attitude, high level of integrity, and intellectual curiosity;
- Proactive and self-starter attitude;
