Attorney-at-Law / Associate (close to bar exam), Competition, Risk & Investigations, Environmental Law – Hungary

We are seeking a motivated Attorney-at-Law (or a trainee lawyer at the final stage of the bar traineeship with at least three years of experience in the legal profession) to join our Competition, Risk & Investigation, Environmental Law, and Dispute Resolution service line in our Budapest office. Supporting the Dispute Resolution practice is considered an advantage.

The ideal candidate has solid practical experience, is able to work effectively under pressure, and communicates confidently with both clients and colleagues. In this role, you will handle complex and diverse legal matters, advise clients on competition, regulatory, and environmental issues, and contribute to a collaborative, high‑quality professional team environment.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide support and legal advice on Hungarian and EU competition law, including merger control, antitrust, and state aid matters;
  • Advise clients on regulatory compliance issues, conduct internal reviews, and assist in designing compliance programs;
  • Support environmental law projects, including ESG and corporate responsibility matters;
  • Draft and review contracts, legal submissions, memoranda, and official correspondence;
  • Represent or assist in representation before Hungarian and EU authorities / courts;
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with clients, authorities, and internal teams;
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing, client development, and professional training initiatives within the firm;
  • Manage multiple assignments simultaneously while maintaining high-quality standards;
  • Work efficiently under pressure and adapt quickly to changing priorities.

Key skills and experience required:

  • Hungarian law degree;
  • Demonstrated practical experience in at least one of the following areas: competition law, regulatory, compliance, or environmental law;
  • Preference is already holding bar exam / bar membership, but for very good candidate end of bar traineeship could be acceptable;
  • Experience at a reputable law firm is a strong preference, having experience at a regulatory authority is an advantage;
  • Ability to conduct legal research using Hungarian and EU databases;
  • MS Applications - particularly Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint;
  • Fluent Hungarian and English;
  • Strong organisational / self-management skills;
  • Multitasking and prioritization;
  • Professional integrity and reliability;
  • Ability to cope with pressure and meet deadlines;
  • Positive ‘can do’ attitude, proactive, solution-oriented mindset;
  • Keen attention to detail, but also the ability to see whole picture;
  • Ability to win respect and confidence of others quickly;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Initiative and ability to work productively alone, but also effective as a team member.
