Associate, Defence & Regulatory Sector – Ukraine
We are looking for a highly motivated Associate (Defence & Regulatory Sector) to join our Kyiv office. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on complex, high-impact projects at the intersection of defence, international trade, and regulatory law.
You will be involved in advising both local and international clients operating in the defence sector, supporting them in navigating regulatory frameworks, entering the Ukrainian market, and structuring compliant commercial operations.
Responsibilities include:
1. Regulatory
1.1 Compliance Advisory:
- Advising on obtaining regulatory approvals required for defence-related activities
- Supporting clients in interactions with state authorities
- Monitoring regulatory developments and providing practical legal guidance
1.2 Export Control:
- Advising on export control regulations applicable to dual-use and military goods
- Supporting the process of obtaining export control authorisations
- Supporting internal compliance frameworks and policies
1.3 Public Procurement:
- Legal support in defence procurement procedures
- Supporting clients throughout contract negotiation and execution
2. Corporate
- Advising on the incorporation of Ukrainian legal entities
- Structuring shareholding arrangements and corporate governance
- Advising on and supporting post-incorporation matters (including bank account opening, corporate approvals and changes)
3. Commercial
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts
- Advising on contractual risks
- Assisting in structuring cross-border transactions
- Providing legal support throughout the contract execution
Key skills and experience required:
- Law degree from a reputable university;
- 5 years of relevant experience in corporate and/or regulatory law;
- Experience advising on corporate structuring, corporate governance, regulatory matters, and transactions;
- Strong understanding of Ukrainian regulatory framework;
- Experience in defence, export control, and public procurement is a strong advantage;
- Excellent legal drafting, analytical, and communication skills;
- Upper-intermediate or higher level of English.
