October 2023 – Kinstellar is delighted to announce that Balázs Tomaj, a seasoned legal practitioner in Hungary’s energy sector, has joined the firm’s Budapest office as a Senior Counsel. With a longstanding and notable career in the energy sector, Balázs brings a wealth of experience and knowledge, further enhancing the firm’s capabilities to serve its clients in this ever-evolving sector.
With over 15 years at the largest Hungarian energy companies and law firms, Balázs has established himself as a trusted legal expert in the field. His deep understanding of energy regulations and industry trends is an invaluable asset for our firm and our clients. He will play a leading role in strengthening our capabilities in the energy sector, enhancing our offering to clients across diverse areas, including energy project developments, investments, regulatory issues, compliance, and dispute resolution matters.
Balázs joins Kinstellar from the MVM Group, the major Hungarian power company, where most recently he acted as Head of Key Account Management at the group level, as Chief Client Relationship Officer and as Deputy CEO. He was previously the Head of Legal and Regulatory Affairs at NKM National Public Utility Ltd., and worked as legal counsel at E.ON Hungária and E.ON Power Generation. He also served as a member of the Hungarian Wind Energy Association and was appointed a member of the Evaluation Committee of the Hungarian Network Operators. Balázs is also listed as an arbitrator at the Permanent Arbitration Court attached to the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
During his legal career he also advised the Hungarian National Asset Management (MNV) and the Hungarian Development Bank (MFB) in various energy transactions.
Balázs Tomaj studied Business Administration at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. He received his law degree (Doctor of Law, J.D.) from the Pázmány Péter Catholic University, Hungary. In addition to his studies, he also undertook a postgraduate specialist training course in banking law at the Deák Ferenc Institute at Pázmány Péter Catholic University.
