September 2013 - Kinstellar’s Prague office co-hosted, together with the Czech Venture Capital Association (CVCA), a seminar on Corruption and the Investment Environment in the Czech Republic and Slovakia on 24 September 2013. The seminar was followed by the PE/VC MIXER.
Four lawyers from Kinstellar’s Prague and Bratislava offices made presentations. Partner Jitka Logesová, co-head of Kinstellar’s Private Equity practice and head of Compliance, Risk and Sensitive Investigations (CRSI), spoke about the impact of corruption on private equity investments in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, highlighting the need for anti-bribery/anti-corruption (ABAC) due diligence in private equity transactions.
Stanislav Mečl, Of Counsel in Kinstellar’s Prague office and former Deputy to the Supreme Public Prosecutor and head of the Unit to fight against corruption and protect the interests of the European Union, gave an insider view on the situation of economic crime in the Czech Republic.
Roman Oleksik, Counsel and head of the CRSI practice in Bratislava, and Jan Juroška, Managing Associate and member of the Private Equity practice in the Prague office, warned of the corruption red flags in private equity transactions in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and offered advice to manage potential risks arising from contractual relationships with "problematic" parties.
More than 30 participants attended the event, including representatives from 3TS Capital Partners, AKAT, ARX Equity Partners, CFA Society, Corpin, Česká Spořitelna, ČSOB, Ernst & Young, KKCG, Mid Europa Partners, Riverside Europe Partners, RWE and Unipetrol.
